COVID-19 Work Abroad Update - United Kingdom

(Updated 09/01/2021)

The Intern in Britain programme is open for bookings. You can travel to the UK now on the Tier 5 GAE visa.

Visa applications / processing

  • BUNAC are accepting new Intern in Britain bookings
  • Most UK Visa Application Centers (VACs) have resumed services where local restrictions allow. For more information about the status of VACs, including opening times in your country, check with:
  • TLS contact if you’re in Europe, Africa and parts of the Middle East
  • VFS global for all other countries
  • Visa processing times vary and may be longer than usual.

Entry into the UK

  • Because of COVID-19, you’ll need to complete a passenger locator form before you arrive in the UK.
-You will need to show a negative COVID-19 test 72 hours prior to travel (at an additional cost to you)
  • You may also need to self isolate for 10 days when you arrive, depending on where you’ve travelled from.
  • If you are travelling from a country on the UK Governments Red List you are not allowed to enter the UK on the Intern in Britain programme.

Self Isolate

You will need to self isolate for 10 days on arrival. BUNAC has put together a 10-day self-isolation package in central London. This can be booked in conjunction with your Intern in Britain programme. See here for further details.

Quarantine managed hotel

If you are travelling from one of the countries on the UK Governments Red List you will need to pre-book your quarantine hotel via the UK Government website. Prices are £1750 which includes the costs of transport from the port of arrival to the designated hotel, food, accommodation, security, other essential services and testing.

  • Since March the UK has imposed national lockdowns and local restrictions around the country. When you are in the UK, BUNAC will keep you up to date on any of these local / national restrictions and what these mean for you.
