COVID-19 Work Abroad Update - United Kingdom

(Updated 18/10/2021)

The Intern in Britain programme is open for bookings. You can travel to the UK now on the Tier 5 GAE visa.

Visa applications / processing

BUNAC are accepting new Intern in Britain bookings. After all of your documents including your employer application and agreement have been approved, the standard processing time to receive a COS decision is 10 business days. There are priority options available to reduce this processing time. Most UK Visa Application Centers (VACs) have resumed services where local restrictions allow. For more information about the status of VACs, including opening times and appointment availability in your country, check with:

  • TLS contact if you’re in Europe, Africa and parts of the Middle East
  • VFS global for all other countries

Standard visa processing time after submission of your visa application and biometric information to at a VAC is around 15 business days. Some locations provide priority services to reduce this processing time.

Entry into the UK

Entry requirements will vary depending the country that you arrive into, your vaccination status and where you have been in the 10 days before your arrival.

In general requirements for vaccinated travellers will include:

  • Complete a passenger locator form in the 48 hours before you arrive.

If you are travelling from a country on the UK Governments Red List you are not allowed to enter the UK on the Intern in Britain programme.

BUNAC has put together a 10-day self-isolation package in central London for anyone who needs support with this. This can be booked in conjunction with your Intern in Britain programme. See here for further details.

During your internship

The UK has largely relaxed national lockdown, social distancing laws and local restrictions around the country. BUNAC will keep you up to date if national restrictions change and what these mean for you during your internship. We’ll also be able to support you with any questions or concerns you have about local rules throughout your internship programme.
