Work in Japan
How it works
We help hundreds of travellers each year to successfully apply for Japan working holiday visas and find work – dealing with the unknown and unfamiliarity so that you can get to the unreal quicker.
Apply online and pay a deposit
First check that you’re eligible for a Japan working holiday visa. Passed? Great. Now decide which program you want to do. The main difference between the Essential and Ultimate is that the Ultimate includes a pre-arranged ski season job. Pay your deposit and wait for us to contact you with the next steps.
Fill out your visa application
There’s a lot of paperwork to navigate and you’ll need to schedule an appointment at the Japan Embassy, but don’t worry, we’ll guide you through everything. Plus, if Godzilla can be granted Japanese citizenship (true story), then getting a working holiday visa should be a walk in the (Jurassic) park.
Find a job (Ultimate travellers)
If you’re on our Ultimate program, we’ll prep you and set up video interviews with potential ski season employers. Interviews are usually in Jul/Aug to start work in Nov/Dec. If you’re already out in Japan on the Essential part of your program, then you’ll do the video interviews from there.
Get to work
Once your visa is approved, start ticking off your to-do list. Check what support funds you need before you book your flights (see our visa section for more) and let us know your arrival details so that we can arrange for you to be met at the airport. Travel insurance can be a visa requirement, get an online quote here.
Get ready to go
Culturally unfamiliar and with a language barrier, moving to Japan is often a mix of anxiety and excitement. We include lots of pre-departure info to help you feeling comfortable confident – including an intercultural training video and a live group Q&A 3-8 weeks before you go to answer all your questions.
Check the COVID requirements
Do you need a vaccination passport, pre-departure test or are you required to isolate on arrival? Stay up to date on the requirements for entering Japan so that there are no nasty surprises or airport false starts.
Arrive into Tokyo
Kon'nichiwa! You’ll be met at the airport by someone from our in-country work abroad team and you’ll travel together to your arrival accommodation where they’ll show you around and help you settle in. Click here for how your first week will look.
