Top beaches in Australia
Take it from someone who knows. In this case, our Head of Sales, Ella. Before working at BUNAC, Ella travelled with us on our Work Australia program. What can we say, we obviously made a good impression. Spending two years working Down Under (which adds up to A LOT of beaches), here are some lesser-known sands to hit up on your Aussie adventure.
Tallows Beach, New South Wales
In a town famous for its laid-back ‘surf and no shoes’ attitude, it’s no surprise that Byron Bay has knockout beaches. Tallow Beach was one of my favourites. We used to head down after a day at work and just dive straight in – an instant mood boost! With views that stretch up the East Coast, you can see Byron’s famous lighthouse and we regularly saw dolphins out there.
Great Otway National Park, Victoria
The Great Ocean Road is peppered with amazing beaches – wide, flat and golden with sand to spare. Including the world-famous Bells Beach, home to the RipCurl Pro and more importantly, Point Break film fame. If you’re up for a challenge, why not hike a section of it like I did (not in one go, clearly!). The walk I did was 100km. Weaving through the Great Otway National Park beneath tall forests and windswept cliffs, the views were unforgettable. My favorite memories were coming across quiet little beaches that I don’t even think had names.
Lennox Head, New South Wales
When I was living in Byron Bay, my daily commute to work each day consisted of driving up the East Coast past this beautiful lookout. From the sounds of crashing waves on the rocks to the sun beaming down on you, you truly can’t beat this incredible location. This beach is perfect for surfing, swimming and snorkelling. Plus foodies will love the abundance of delicious cafés and restaurants. My advice is to make sure you take the time to stop and take in the beauty. Many tour groups just pass it by.
